Zou Ji was a tall, handsome minister of Qi. One morning he put on his robe and looked in the mirror and asked his wife: who's more handsome, me or Lord Xu of the north?
His wife said: you, obviously.
He asked his concubine. She said: Lord Xu has nothing on you.
He asked a guest who had come for a favour. The guest said: Lord Xu might be good, but not as good as you.
Then Lord Xu came to court, and Zou Ji looked at him, and looked at himself in the mirror, and understood.
I asked three people and all three agreed with me, not because I'm handsome, but because my wife loves me, my concubine fears me, and my guest wants something from me.
Then he went to the king of Qi and said: your majesty, you have advisors who love you, officials who fear you, and people who want things from you. Nobody is going to tell you the truth either.
Your environment is full of people whose answer is shaped by what they need from you. That's not malice, it's how relationships work. The gap is that most people then read their agreement as validation.
Which means you can't ask them. You have to build the record somewhere else.
A file that only you see. An hour a week where you say the truthful version before the polite version. A mirror rather than a fan.
MOJOWAY is that record. A file only you see, where the truthful version speaks before the polite one, and where the gap between them slowly becomes visible.
