Zhuangzi was at a funeral when he turned to his friend Huizi and told him a story.
In Ying there was a man with a smear of plaster on the tip of his nose, no thicker than a fly's wing. He asked a carpenter named Shi to take it off. Shi swung his axe, and the wind of it passed, and the plaster was gone, and the nose was untouched.
The man from Ying stood there without changing expression.
The ruler of Song heard about it and called for the carpenter. Do it for me. Shi said: I could once. But the material I worked on has been dead for a long time.
Zhuangzi told that story at a funeral because Huizi had just died.
Most people read it as a story about skill. It's a story about partnership. The feat was possible because two people trusted each other at a level that can't be manufactured. Take away the one who could stand still, and the axe is just an axe.
You can be brilliant and useless at the same time, if the person you can be brilliant with isn't there.
MOJOWAY is a quiet partner in the ordinary sense: it holds the file, remembers what you said last month, and doesn't flinch. You still have to stand still. That part can't be outsourced.
