Listen to how you talk to a friend who's twenty minutes late. Now listen to how you talk to yourself when you're five minutes late.
Same event. Two different courts. One is a friend saying no worries, traffic's bad. The other is a prosecutor who has been building this case since you were twelve.
Confucius said something that got translated into a rule about manners: be heavy on yourself, light on other people, and resentment will stay away.
Two thousand years of readers have taken that as an instruction to be harder on themselves, which is a spectacular misreading. Read the second half again. The point of being hard on yourself was that other people would stop resenting you. It was about living with them, not about nightly trials in your own head.
What survived was the heaviness. What got dropped was the relief.
You put the heavy on yourself and the light on everyone else, exactly as written, except the payoff went missing. There's no resentment to avoid. There's just a person alone at midnight, being deposed.
Tonight, when you go over your day, try one run-through in the voice you'd use for the friend. Just to hear what it sounds like.
MOJOWAY is built around that voice. Learning to speak to yourself the way you'd speak to someone you like is most of the work, and it takes longer than people expect.
